About Alvin Archer

Alvin was born in Virginia in 1935, where he attended public school in Amelia County. He went on to attend Virginia State College where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. From an early age, Alvin had a strong sense of community becoming an active member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity while attending college and regularly devoted time for community service.By 1958 he was living a quiet life raising his family and working as a Pharmaceutical Sales Manager for Pfizer Company.In 1975, Alvin married his life partner Verna Pendleton. Together they built not only a personal legacy but also a corporate legacy through Arven Freight Forwarding Inc.

About Verna I. Archer

Verna was born in Virginia in 1934. She regularly attended church services at Third Union Baptist Church in King William, Virginia. From an early age, Verna was extremely devoted to her home church, remaining faithful and loyal to its teachings throughout her whole life.Verna attended both King William Training Academy and Virginia State College until her move to Washington D.C. in the 1950s to work for the US Department of Treasury. She too, lived a quiet life. Always gracious, she became a community servant as an active church member when she met Alvin.

The Legacy of Alvin and Verna Archer

In 1984, both Alvin and Verna became founding members of Riverside Baptist Church. They provided transportation services for church members, organized the food pantry and continued to be of service to community members in need.In 1997, Alvin and Verna became founding members of The New Hope Baptist Church in St. George’s County. There, they enjoyed fellowships as Trustee, Bible School Teacher, Deacon among other ministry duties. After life long careers in both transportation services and the US Department of Treasury, both Alvin and Verna wanted to do something more.

On May 5, 1994, Arven Freight Forwarding was born.

Since then, our small, military, minority, and woman owned business has flourished to a complete transportation management firm with extensive services provided to our clients. Our corporate headquarters is located in Brandywine, MD with our operation facilities located in Woodbridge, Virginia. In addition to Arven Freight we now have numerous partners in the industry amongst various locations to provide multiple sources for transportation needs.

Corporate Responsibility

In honor of Alvin and Verna’s legacy for helping the community we have created “Arven Cares”. The programs initiative is to offer support, financial donations and time to care for the people and places in our local communities that need it most.
